Photos from a walk in Holyrood Park to the summit of Arthur's Seat. We started from near the modern Scottish Parliament building and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. We had great views over the city of Edinburgh and the Port of Leith. On the way down we pased the ruins of St. Anthony's Chapel. Later in the day, we later visited the National Museum of Scotland, learning more about how bad the English had been to the Scottish.

It was the first day that the line way fully open following repairs after flood damage, and also the first opening of the new Engine House at Highley. The engines in steam included GWR 2-6-2T 5164, BR 4-6-0 45110, and SDJR 2-8-0 No.88.

A wlk with Katherine to the west of Oxford. We started form the city centre and headed out past the station towards New Botley, before takingcycle track to North Kinksey. We then climbed over Cumnor Hill up through the Youlbury Wood to Chilswell House. We had lunch at Jarn Mound on Boars Hill. We retuned to the river via Foxcombe Hill, Bayworth, Little Longdon, and Kennington. We followed the river north to Iffley Lock and cut back to Cowley.

We then took the track through Waterhatch, and had lunch above Spoonley Farm. We returned to Winchcombe via Parks Farm and Sudeley Castle.

A boxing day walk starting from Stumps Cross in Gloucestershire. We took the track to Deadmanbury Gate, before walking through Guiting Wood. We then joined the Diamond Way to Temple Guiting, where we had lunch. After lunch, we went north to Ford and Cutsdean, before returning to the cars at Stumps Cross.

A day walking starting from Hollybush car park. We took the track north from the car-park and turned west past the Edward Somers Obelisk and down into Eastnor Estate. From there we climbed on to the Ridgeway, and followed it north-east before dropping don to Netherton Farm and climbing back up to the Worcestershire Way. We then went north to Wynds Point, before returning above the reservoir and over Swynyard Hill to the Gullet Quarry. We finally returned to the cars arouns the west side of Midsummer Hill.

We then walked south to Elsfield, to see the manor and John Buchan's grave. We then joined the River Cherwell, and followed it north to Islip for lunch. We had a quick look in the church, before taking the Oxfordshire way to Noke, and Prattle Lane back to Woodeaton.

A short bike ride from Cowley, passing through Garsington, Denton, and Cuddesdon. I then took the road to Great Melton before turning off back to Wheatley. From Wheatley I ventured off-road to the top of Shotover Country Park. I then took the bridleway down throught the park back to Cowley.

After the trip to Breedon, we travelled by car to the town of Melbourne. There we had a stroll along by the pool, and had lunch in the tea rooms. We then had a quick look in some of the craft shops in the grounds of the Hall. Melbourne gave its name to title Viscount Melbourne (whose holders were once resident at Melbourne Hall). The more famous Melbourne, Australia was named after second viscount in 1837.

A trip to Rushcliffe Country Park and the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. Unfortunately the main steam engine wasn't running, but we looked round the engine sheds, saw the vintage buses, and had a trip on the minature railway run by the Nottingham Society of Model and Experimental Engineers. We then walked round the rest of the park and had our picnic overlooking the lake.

After a quick drink at the Derwent Hotel, we climbed up through Crich Carr to Crich, and took the path through the woods back to the canal and Ambergate.

A walk from Chris' house just outside Keswick. We climbed though Applethwaite to the summit of Latrigg, and then descended to the east. We followed the disused Penrith.Oxenholme railway line for a bit before retracing our steps and climbing south out of the valley and up to the Castlerigg Stone Circle. We then returned via the outskirts of Keswick.
